A Ritchie County woman has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly firing a rifle at Troopers in the county. The incident happened on the 5th of February when Troopers working with the Ritchie County detachment of the West Virginia State Police were called to respond to an argument or quarrel which happened at an apartment on Hardbarger Run Road in Harrisville.
Upon arrival the officers deduced that the suspect named Cayla Ross a 35 year old lady had taken up a belligerent attitude to the neighbours and began acting like someone under the influence, the officers decided to pay the suspect a visit at her residence, and after indicating their presence, she responded rudely and vehemently insisting that they get off her property using the cuss word and thereafter proceed to fire a shot at the troopers from a high-powered rifle. At this point, the troopers had to take cover and wait for the arrival of other law enforcement agencies such as the Ritchie County Sheriff Department who arrived a little after. With the arrival of the reinforcements, the suspect exited the building herself and approached the officers, she would not voluntarily lay down on the ground as requested by the offices, so she was taken down by force. She stated that she fired a .270 rifle while being arrested.
She was charged with wanton endangerment and her bail bond is set at $50,000 while she is remanded in the North Central Regional Jail.
